Unplanned
curators: Grace Wen, Laura D’Alessandro, June Hund
participants: Members of Rust Belt Photo Collective. A member is defined as anyone who has attended one meeting within the calendar year.
Unplanned – art must primarily be in the medium of photography, though other elements such as painted on details, collaging, or cutouts can be used to enhance the photo
Unplanned seeks submissions of artwork with fortuitous strong layouts, even though the photo session didn’t go the way the artist intended. These are photographs that are in the right place at the right time, capturing “happy accidents” such as misbehaving toddlers or animals.
Photographs can be either narrative or non-narrative.
Some brainstorming ideas include guiding the gaze through disorder and revealing hidden patterns in the chaotic nature of existence.
Since Brownhoist is an all-ages venue, we cannot accept nude photography.
Read carefully: there is a fee to submit work for consideration to this show.

FAQ
Where is the show and opening?
Brownhoist
opening: Saturday April 4, 2026, 6PM to 9:30PM
4403 St. Clair Ave.
Cleveland, OH 44103
The Brownhoist has a first come, first serve parking lot. Additional street parking available.
Exhibition runs from April 4 to May 2.
Artists should try to attend the opening. Viewers love talking to artists, and it’s a great way to butter people up to potentially buy your work! (This is an idiom, please don’t actually butter up the public.)
Please arrive 30 min. before opening.
Artists are expected to contribute a snack or drink item. A list of requested items will be provided one week before the show, and items can be dropped off during the opening.
Accepted work will be dropped off at the Brownhoist during:
Wed. 4/1 and Th. 4/2
show will be hung on Fri. 4/3
Try to drop off work during these times because artists have to initial intake paperwork. If artists can’t drop off work during these times, please contact either Grace, June, or Laura so other arrangements can be made. If work is not dropped off or no arrangement is made, work won’t be in the show, and there will be no refund.
Is there a submission fee? There is a $15 submission fee in cash per every 3 pieces of artwork entered. Please pay cash to June Hund in person. If Rust Belt Photo Collective does not receive an entry fee, we will assume you have taken your submission out of the running.
entry deadline: SATURDAY MARCH 7, 2026 BY MIDNIGHT
notification date: Saturday March 14, 2026 by midnight
When do I pick up my work?
Sunday May 3 to Tuesday May 5, 2026
Please make arrangements with Grace, Laura, or June if you can’t pick up work during those times.
All picked up work must be signed out, regardless of who’s picking up the work.
